Pinhole Glasses

WHAT ARE PINHOLE GLASSES

Pinhole glasses are eyeglasses with a series of pinhole-sized perforations filling an opaque sheet of plastic in place of each lens.

HOW PINHOLE GLASSES FUNCTION

Pinhole glasses functions at two levels. Firstly the pinhole glasses acts by blocking the peripheral rays, and only letting into the eye those rays which pass through the central portion of the pupil.
Secondly the multiple pinholes allow people to use eye movements to see objects, thus exercising the eye muscle which like all other muscle need movement for flexibility and elasticity. Lack of movement means that they eyes do not function adequately.

HOW TO USE PINHOLE READERS

We recommend that when first wearing pinhole glasses, they be worn for 5 to 15 minutes each time. This can later be increased to 30 minutes and even up to sixty minutes. Just like wearing other glasses, time in needed for the eye to adjust. Time is needed for you to adjust to the sensation of muscles being ‘worked’ that have been unused for some time.

VISION ACTIVITIES

Here are selections of activities you can use while wearing your pinhole glasses.

Blink and breathe:
Frequent blinking helps saccadic eye motions and relaxes the eye from staring. Breathing through the nasal tract is fundamental to keep the eye orbits (bone structure surrounding the eyeballs ) in a natural state of relaxation, helps the flexibility of extrinsic eye muscles and increases the visual brain co-ordination.

Tromboning:
Cover one eye with one hand, and move the other hand towards and away from the uncovered eye, at varying speeds. After a couple of minutes, change to the opposite hand and eye. This activity is good warm-up for reading, and can be done with or without pinhole glasses.

Close and Far Movements:
Move the focus of eyes from distant to close objects and back again.

Dynamic Panoramic Vision:
Focus on an object either close or far, and at the same time think of widening your vision to see all around you.

Note: We make no claim that pinhole glasses are design to correct, remedy or relieve any anatomical or physiological defects of sight which should be referred to an optometrist. Pinhole glasses should not be used used whilst driving a motor vehicle of any sort or while operating machinery.
